Vasco: Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said there are plans to introduce a GPS-tracked garbage collection system in all panchayats within the next six months.
“By the end of this year, we will implement a scientific waste management system in all 191 panchayats, according to the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This includes the proper collection and segregation of dry waste, with facilities being equipped with balers,” Godinho said.
The dry waste collection and separation works will be overseen by the Panchayats Directorate, he said.
Godinho instructed all Panchayat bodies to take strict action against people dumping rubbish on roadsides and in public places.
“Employees of Panchayat who neglect their duties and fail to act harshly against people will be severely reprimanded,” Godinho said.
He addressed a gathering of elected panch members, deputy sarpanchs and sarpanchs of all panchayat bodies, alongside the zilla panchayat members, at the Swachh Sujal Shakti Samman program held in Bogmalo.
“It is the responsibility of every Panch member to clean their stations. Unless you take it as a personal mission, the station will never be cleaned up, despite the government’s sincere efforts to provide all necessary aid and funds and other necessary facilities under the Swachh Bharat Mission,” he said.
He also urged panchayat bodies to generate additional revenue by revising taxes and raising profile by introducing changes. He also said that all panchayats should start work on creating a digital database.
