Will Smith says there was “never” a case of infidelity in his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith.
In an in-depth interview with Gayle King that aired this weekend, the King Richard actor, who is nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams’ father in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s acclaimed drama, was asked how he “dealing with all the gossip” surrounding his and Jada’s decade-long relationship.
“I’ve decided that the gossip about my life can be of use to people,” Smith said in the above CBS video at the 7:18 mark Sunday morning. “I think the chatter is the first stage in having a real conversation and being able to really explore whether some of the things in your heart are loving or toxic.”
From then on, King mentioned “marital infidelity,” which refutes Smith.
“There has never been infidelity in our marriage,” he said. “Never. Jada and I talk about everything and we’ve never surprised each other with anything.”
Elsewhere in the new interview, the recently released Will author also opened up about how his father’s forgiveness helped him forgive himself, his Oscar-nominated performance of King Richard, and more. Towards the end of the nine-minute video, Smith was asked to talk about what he still needs to do in his career, what he still wants to do. This prompted a multi-part response from Smith, who predicts his next decade of creativity will include his best work yet.
“Life has gotten really, really easy for me right now,” Smith told King. “I think I’m a better actor than I’ve ever been. And I think I’m going to, you know, these next 10 years of my career are going to be the pinnacle of my acting. But I also feel like I can help people. There’s a teacher in me trying to get out. I learned how to be happy here and I learned how to create love here. And I want to share.”

As for the topic of Will and Jada’s relationship, it’s been a source of headlines for some time, including breakout stories of the “entanglement” type and more. For example, during a conversation with Oprah last November, Will spoke candidly about his and Jada’s approach to “Freedom in Love” and that that journey isn’t based on a “sexual goal” of any kind. “We’re definitely going to love each other,” he said at the time.
