MATTHEWS, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person was hospitalized with serious injuries after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Matthews, Medic confirmed.
The shooting happened just after noon on Sunday, July 30.
According to Matthews police, a man called and said he had just been shot by his girlfriend’s ex-husband and ex-husband’s brother.
The man said the shooting happened while he and his girlfriend were in a car at 10140 Northeast Parkway, according to authorities. During a phone call to police, the victim reported that the two gunmen followed her car.

Officials say the gunmen followed the victims’ car until they reached Novant Health Matthews before the suspects drove away. The suspects’ car was seen driving north on Matthews Mint Hill Road and a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the men pulling into the parking lot of the 7-Eleven & Exxon gas station at 11208 E. Independence Boulevard .
Officials said the driver of the car had a serious gunshot wound to the arm and officials put a tourniquet on him until paramedics could arrive. A doctor reported that one person was taken to the Atrium CMC with serious injuries. His condition remains stable.
According to the officials, the two children and the driver’s brother were also in the car. Investigators believe the incident was sparked by a domestic dispute over a child swap in the Windsor Park car park.
The man who called police was also receiving medical attention for a gunshot wound to his wrist, police said, and his girlfriend was being treated for broken glass and a physical assault.
Matthews Police Department detectives are investigating the incident and charges are pending.
