A man from Old Lycoming Township allegedly did not allow his fiancee and her family to take their daughter out of his home on Sunday night, police said.

Police say they perched around Zuni Lane in 2014 and spent about 45 minutes comforting Anthony Humphries Jr., 30, from the porch so they could check on the child’s well-being at the residence, according to Dalton Lovell , an officer with the Old Lycoming Township Police Department.

Earlier in the day, Humphries’ fiancé said she and Humphries were involved in a domestic disturbance, Lovell said, in which Humphries allegedly smashed the woman’s cell phone.

According to Lovell, Humphries’ fiance reportedly told police that Humphries had been using cocaine, marijuana and alcohol heavily for the past four days.

Lovell said the woman called her parents and told them to pick her and the 9-year-old child from the house.

When they arrived, Humphries allegedly refused to let the family take the 9-year-old daughter, Lovell said.

The fiancé’s father he said “Heard the distinct sound of action coming from a firearm at about the same time,” said Lovell.

“You all better get out of here before I start shooting.” Humphries said, according to Lovell.

Lovell said police arrived and established a perimeter around the home and ordered neighbors to protect themselves in place. The City Police Special Emergency Response Team and hostage negotiation teams also responded to help because police didn’t know the location of the reported firearm, Lovell said.

The police called Humphries and tried to direct him outside, but Humphries’ behavior was aggressive and uncooperative, according to Lovell. Humphries refused orders to leave the porch and leave the house.

According to Lovell, after 45 minutes of dialogue between the two, police took Humphries into custody and the child was found at the residence.

Police allegedly found numerous items of drug paraphernalia, including marijuana and drug smoking material, prominently displayed in the trailer the child was in.

Around 6:30 p.m., first responders cleared the scene of the accident
