During the round tables organized as part of the joint EU/CoE project Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members the national authorities an active discussion with a focus on improving the maintenance and compensation framework of the family court’s determination.
Important issues such as determining alimony payments according to the standards set by the judiciary and according to predetermined parameters as well as the requirements for establishing a uniform practice in similar cases were among the central topics dealt with in Mardin. The meeting also discussed the practice of collecting maintenance through enforcement, the difficulties faced by family members and the dimension of international legal cooperation in maintenance cases.
An evaluation report is then prepared that summarizes the main points and shows measures for possible improvement of the maintenance and severance payment procedure.
The project “Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe and the Türkiye Judicial Academy. The project aims to ensure rule of law and fundamental rights in Türkiye in full compliance with international and European standards and to improve the effectiveness of family courts in protecting the rights of women, children and other family members.
