Pooja Bedi Opens Up About Her Divorce And Not Taking Alimony; Says: “Maine Apna Career Chhoda Aur Unka Banaya…”
Alaya F’s mother and actress Pooja Bedi once opened up about her divorce from Farhan Furniturewala. The actress has spoken of not taking child support, starting from scratch and fighting against all odds in show business to make a name for herself. Back then, the actress was asked how she had the courage to walk away with her kids despite having no financial security and everything in between. An old video of the actress opening up in much the same way has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, Pooja said, “There’s a saying, where there’s a will, there’s a way.” I was adamant that I didn’t want to be in this marriage. That’s a definite thing. Now I have to look for solutions. My husband kept saying I was the perfect wife, why should I let you go? I said maybe this isn’t a perfect marriage and maybe you’re not a good husband and I want to go. “
She further added, “Then my husband said, ‘No, if I give you money, you’re definitely going to go and go, and I don’t want you to go.’ And that’s where I just didn’t want to stay in the marriage.” May bad uljhan my thi. And the court system was different back then. The settlement issues were different. Then I asked myself: What do I want? Do I fight this in court or do I let it happen? Maine Apna Career Chhoda, Unke Liye, Aur Unke Career Banaya. Furniturewala jo tha we put it together. I was part of it, but not legally. I didn’t have the legal rights, but this company was built with me. If I had taken all this to court, the bitterness would have been great, because there are children involved here. And statistically, in 2002, women did not appear to be receiving adequate alimony or alimony for their children. I then decided to file for divorce by mutual consent and not take a penny of alimony as my ex-husband was unwilling to part with money.
“And when I finally broke up, people asked me how I was going to take care of the kids. There were many problems. It is not easy. My mother had died leaving a small part of me as an inheritance. And that’s how we changed our lives. I started from scratch. I started working as a columnist. Then Times Of India approached me for a talk show and things picked up from there.
