After the Kolkata High Court on Monday ruled in favor of Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife in the domestic violence case, Hasin Jahan thanked the judge but said she would postpone the court over the Rs 50,000 alimony she was awarded.
“Rs 50,000 is minimal for me so I have to contest that. It is true that the verdict is in my favour, but I will go to the high court as the amount set for my maintenance is very small considering Shami’s income,” Jahan told News18.
Hasin Jahan had filed a lawsuit against right-armed fast bowler Shami at Jadavpur Police Station, accusing him of infidelity and domestic violence. Hasin continued, “It was really difficult for me to continue the litigation for five years. Having no financial support or merit, all I know is how I arranged the money for so long. Therefore, I earn much more upkeep for a quality life.”
Jahan explained that she received no financial or emotional support during her “difficult times”: “I spend my life believing in God. The story of our clash is spread all over the world, but hardly anyone knows it.” I want you to know what I experienced. How terribly some people and media have tried to smear me.”
In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed a lawsuit in the court demanding monthly maintenance of 10 lakh rupees, of which 7,00,000 rupees is her personal maintenance and the remaining 3,00,000 rupees is for the maintenance of her daughter.
Her lawyer Mriganka Mistry told the court that according to the Indian pacemaker’s income tax return for the 2020/21 financial year, his annual income for that financial year was more than 7 crore rupees and on that basis the claim for a monthly income of 10 lakh alimony Rupees were not unjustified.

However, Selim Rahman, Shami’s lawyer, said that the demand for such a large amount of alimony was not justified as Hasin Jahan himself has a stable source of income as a professional model.

Speaking on Shami’s recent appearance in the ODI against Sri Lanka, Hasin said: “I don’t care about one person who made my life miserable and made me fight for such a long term. He has many well-wishers who wish him something. Now I just want to focus on my daughter, her studies and her well-being.
