After once paying $40,000 in child support, Gilbert Arenas defends Dwyane Wade for splitting bills ‘evenly’ with Gabrielle Union: ‘Bills total $100,000 this month’

Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade was in the news recently because of his partner Gabrielle Union’s viral comments. Union, 50, had claimed on the Idea Generation podcast that she and Dwyane Wade broke up “50:50,” leading fans to question the nature of their relationship. In response, Wade explained on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast that the “50-50” rule isn’t about a strict split of spending. Rather, it was based on mutual understanding and trust. Regardless, former Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas recently appeared on YouTube channel VladTV. Among other things, Arenas spoke about Wade’s recent comments, claiming that the pair may currently be making similar amounts. Arenas himself has experience splitting the bills with ex-partner Laura Govan, whom he paid $40,000 a month until 2016, according to TMZ.

Still, it’s little surprise that Dwyane Wade and Union split their bills down the middle. Both are active professionals and can hope for a successful career. Although Wade’s NBA earnings should serve him well, Union is a popular film and television actor having appeared in films such as 10 Things I Hate About You and She Is Everything.

Gilbert Arenas defends Dwyane Wade’s comments about splitting bills 50/50 with partner

Vlad asked Gilbert Arenas if he thought it was fair for Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union to split their bills 50/50. The fact of the matter is, three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade has a net worth of $170 million, which could be more than enough to avoid splitting the bills.

However, Arenas believes the couple’s bottom line isn’t overall earnings, but rather their current earnings. He explained that while Wade may have a larger net worth, his income could be around $300,000 a month, while Gabrielle Union, who is an active actress, may earn upwards of half a million a year. Arenas also envisioned that the pair might have different issues of their own, leading to a compromise of sorts:

“For example, Wade and Gab are right about talking about two big companies, right: He had his side, he’s got his kids, he’s got his house, probably mom and dad, this and that. And she’s got people on hers.” Page, her sisters this and that. So when you look at the bills, they say, okay, your bills this month are 100,000.”

In fact, Wade had explained that the couple developed this philosophy after he once told Gabrielle they were at his house, which he “paid for.” This prompted Union to tell him never to tell her that again. In the end, the two promised each other more equality, and Wade claimed they now had a mutual understanding based on love and trust.

Arenas paid an ex-partner a $40,000 monthly settlement for years

There is little doubt that Arenas’ understanding of the situation is based on his own personal experience. Both Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have had relationships that ended badly in the past. Wade was married to Siohvaughn Funches while Union was previously married to former NFL player Chris Howard.

Arenas himself split from ex-wife Laura Govan in 2010 and started out on a $40,000 monthly settlement. His wife sued him, demanding more money, resulting in a reduction in monthly payments to around $10,000.

Arenas didn’t seem to know the exact reason behind the 50-50 split between Wade and his partner. However, his comments suggest that his personal experiences played a role in his decision to defend the fellow NBA Legends.
