Malaika Arora responds to people accusing her of accepting 'heavy alimony' from Arbaaz Khan; says: 'I was horrified': Bollywood News

Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan, once considered one of the most popular couples, shocked the nation when they announced their divorce in 2017. When the dancer recently turned reality show judge, she opened up about her difficult time in her life. She also revealed the ongoing rumors she encountered, including one about “fat alimony payments” and how shocked she was about it.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Malaika Arora spoke about how people reacted to her divorce with the actress-producer and shared, “When I decided to divorce, I don't think there were too many women in the industry who got divorced and moved. I felt that in order to make my child happy and ensure that he thrives in his environment, I needed to feel good within myself about my personal growth and choice. So that’s what I did.”

She also recalled a story about a huge alimony she allegedly took from her former husband Arbaaz Khan, adding, “Someone decided to bring a ridiculous article about something I was wearing, telling them how it was expensive and they said, “Obviously she can afford it because she got a hefty living allowance” and I was horrified. Whatever you have done in life, no matter what level, it makes no difference.”

“Not that I grew up in an environment where I was told, 'Oh, you have to get married at this age.' I was told to live my life, go out, have fun, meet more people and have more relationships, all of that was told to me. However, I don't know what came to mind. When I was 22 or 23, I said I wanted to get married. Nobody forced me to do this but it was what I had to do now because it was the best option I had at that moment,” Arora reiterated.

For the unversed, Malaika Arora currently shared custody of her son Arhaan Khan, who is now 21 years old. The popular star is currently in a serious relationship with Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor.
