Court summons Punjab Home Minister in maintenance case on March 26

A family court in Lahore on Friday summoned Punjab Home Minister Noorul Ameen Mengal on March 26 over his second wife and ailing daughter's maintenance application, TV channel 24NewsHD reported.

Justice Shazia Kausar heard the application of Ambreen Sardar and four-year-old autism patient Aleeha Noorul Ameen.

Mian Daud Advocate, who appeared in court on behalf of the plaintiffs, said Mengal had a second marriage with Ambreen in 2018. “And in November 2019, they were blessed with a baby girl, Aleeha,” he said, adding, “But after a few months, Mengal threw his wife and daughter out of the house. He even stopped paying them maintenance.”

And after Ambreen asked for the money, he gave them the amount and the lawyer also shared that after several months.

On that occasion, Ambreen said that her husband opened his bank account and later handed over the ATM to her.

She further said that growing up, Aleeha suffered from autism for which treatment was underway. “The girl’s monthly expenses for treatment and school fees now amount to over Rs 0.3 million,” she said.

She continued that Mengal still has to pay her the money she spent on buying medicines at the time of the girl's birth. “Therefore, I request the court to order my husband to fix my daughter’s maintenance at Rs 300,000 and also clear the arrears.”

Ambreen also sought a court order for Mengal to pay her maintenance starting in 2019.
