Afrobeat star David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has spoken publicly about his ongoing custody battle with the mother of his first child, Sophia Momodu.
LEADERSHIP reports that the matter is currently the subject of legal proceedings.
On Friday night, Davido expressed his frustration under his X name, stating: “You keep bringing up the death of my child whenever you can to remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives. Imade will grow up and see that I fought for her. For now, you can have her. PS: She won't stay a child forever. Enjoy ❤️ Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!”
In a follow-up tweet, he added: “I only asked for joint custody but because it's Davido y'all act like you can't read! SMH I'm out of here… be blessed and I pray this never happens to you.”
LEADERSHIP reports that Sophia Momodu has filed her defence in the legal battle brought by Davido for the custody of her daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke. The counter affidavit, consisting of 102 paragraphs, was filed by her legal team led by Anthony Idigbe, SAN of Punuka Attorney, and Dr. Bimpe Ajegbomogun.
In her statement of claim before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, Sophia opposed the award of custody of her daughter to Davido, citing his unavailability and inability to adequately care for her daughter. She alleged that throughout their relationship, Davido never showed genuine devotion or love for Imade and often used access to her as a precondition for his sexual desires.
Momodus' affidavit states: “He always made my availability for his sexual pleasures a condition for him to visit our daughter or show her some fatherly love.”
LEADERSHIP recalls that Davido recently filed a lawsuit bearing the reference LD/1587PMC/2024, demanding joint custody and full access to Imade. In his lawsuit, he claims that he has always met his financial obligations to their child despite facing what he describes as unreasonable demands from Sophia, designed to harass and frustrate him.
Momodu then denied the allegations, saying that Davido had not seen their daughter of his own accord since July 2022. Momodu further claimed that she had been solely responsible for Imade for the past two years, while Davido presented himself as a supportive and active father on social media.
