Hillsborough police have arrested and charged two people involved in a custody dispute that turned violent Monday afternoon.
Police responded to a 911 call regarding a reported kidnapping on Cheshire Drive.
When they arrived, they discovered that it was a custody dispute that escalated into violence.
No injuries were reported and the child is safe with his legal guardian.
Jimmy Titus Smith, 24, was taken into custody at the Orange County Detention Center and faces the following charges:
- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Firing a firearm into an occupied vehicle
- Assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor
- Resisting arrest
- Firing a firearm within city limits
A summons was issued against 30-year-old Shaqualah Metz for resisting prosecution.
