On January 1, 2024, the subsistence level for children was increased in Ukraine. This also affected the amount of alimony. This was announced by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, reports UNN.

According to Part 2 of Article 182 of the Family Code of Ukraine, the guaranteed minimum amount of child support per child is not less than 50% of the subsistence level for a child of the corresponding age.
On November 9, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024”, which increased the subsistence minimum:
- for children under 6 years old – 2,563 UAH;
- for children aged 6 to 18 years – 3,196 UAH.
Therefore, according to the Ministry, from January 2024 the guaranteed minimum maintenance amount will be calculated as follows:
- for children under 6 years old – 1,281.5 UAH;
- for children aged 6 to 18 years – 1,598 UAH.
How to determine the amount of maintenance
Taking into account the factor of the number of children, the following calculation scheme results:
- ▫️ per child – ¼ of income;
- ▫️ for two – 1/3 of income;
- ▫️ for three or more people: half of the income.
However, the court may also take into account, among other things, the state of health and financial situation of the child and the maintenance debtor, the existence of other children and disabled relatives (husband, wife, parents, daughter, son), property rights (real estate, car, etc.), expenses/income of the maintenance debtor, etc.
What is the difference between the guaranteed maintenance amount and the recommended amount?
The guaranteed amount of child support per child is the minimum amount a parent pays when their income is low. The recommended amount is the amount set by the court when the parent's income is sufficient.
The maximum amount of maintenance may not exceed ten times the subsistence level:
- up to 6 years – 25,630 UAH;
- from 6 to 18 years – 31,960 UAH.
