Men's rights group calls for amendment to maintenance law | News from Aurangabad

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Men’s rights group Save India Family Foundation (SIFF) has demanded that the duration of marriage be linked to maintenance and alimony payments.
The group claims that the existing practice of providing financial support to wives after separation is highly unfair and calls for the implementation of remedial measures.
“Currently, maintenance and alimony are decided based on the husband's income and amount to 25 to 50 percent of his assets and income. These are huge sums that the husband has to pay, even if the marriage is short-lived,” said SIFF member Sagar Gunthal.
The SIFF had stated in a memorandum to the government that maintenance should be denied to separated wives if cases of domestic violence and dowry allegations are found to be false.
