The Trivandrum High Court passed an order on a petition filed by Dr Yamini Thankachi alleging domestic violence against her husband. The court also restrained the former minister from disposing of his movable and immovable properties until her petition is disposed of.

The court did not entertain Yamini's request to prevent her husband from entering the house. Yamini has demanded Rs 200 million in alimony during the divorce. She demanded interim alimony of Rs 25 million.

Ganesh filed a divorce petition in the family court in the state capital.

The court will continue hearing the case on Friday.

Yamini approached the court after the two filed police complaints against each other. The police have filed charges of physical violence against both of them. The Crime Branch team investigating the complaints questioned Yamini. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday said the ruling Congress-led UDF government will not rush to nominate a Congress candidate for the cabinet post that has fallen vacant following the resignation of KB Ganesh Kumar following the domestic violence charges levelled against him by his wife.

“We will not discuss the matter immediately or rush into a decision,” he said here at his cabinet meeting in response to questions from reporters.

Chandy's statement is significant because the resignation of Kumar, the lone MP from the Kerala Congress (B), has fuelled speculation that a Congress candidate may soon be selected to fill the post vacated by Kumar, who held important portfolios in forestry, sports and cinema.
