As WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol prepares for a monumental showdown against Artur Beterbiev on October 12, his personal life is in turmoil in the public eye. The fallout from his divorce from his ex-wife Ekaterina Bivol is controversial, with Ekaterina making serious allegations against the undefeated boxer.

The relationship reportedly deteriorated after Bivol's victory over Canelo Alvarez in 2022. Ekaterina claims that the fame and fortune that came with Bivol's boxing success fundamentally changed him. Just a year after the Alvarez fight, the couple split and Ekaterina has since made a series of allegations against her ex-husband via social media.

She has publicly criticized Bivol's alleged stinginess when it comes to child support payments for her two sons, saying he only contributes $1,100 a month while accusing him of hiding his assets in overseas bank accounts. Additionally, she claimed Bivol was emotionally and physically abusive. She has shared several disturbing posts suggesting that she appears to have suffered psychological trauma during her marriage.

A fan highlighted Ekaterina's Instagram posts under an X post from DAZN Boxing that previewed the Russian's upcoming fight against Artur Beterbiev. In the posts, Ekaterina explained the sequence of events that led to the divorce, stating:

“After the Canelo fight we moved [United] Says because it was my ex's idea [Bivol]. Then he left me there [when] He said we would live there together for a year. But then suddenly his fight [against Gilberto Ramirez] was moved from the [United States] to the Emirates [UAE]. I lived there alone with my children for five and a half months. And that's why the divorce started, because I was unhappy there. I love Russia.

She added:

“And he told me all this as if he was giving me money. Like all these men who think they can buy us.” [women]. He moved out of the apartment and my children were shocked too. And after two weeks he came and said, “You know what? I think a divorce is bad for my career. Maybe we're just separated but legally married.” Then I told him it wasn't working for me and you cheated on me.

Ekaterina openly expressed her support for Artur Beterbiev before the Bivol duel.

British promoter Eddie Hearn has described this fight as a “generational fight” and stressed the importance of both fighters being undefeated and at the top of their game. In an interview with Boxing News, he previewed the clash, saying:

“I appreciate that there are bigger fights than this commercially, but tell me a better fight. This is a top fight. It's about the undisputed light heavyweight championship with the two best light heavyweights in the world, with every belt in boxing at stake. I can't wait… Bivol is the master boxer and Artur Beterbiev is a destruction machine. He is a very powerful, incredible fighter. They are two of the best in this sport.”
