RICHMOND, Calif. – What was supposed to be a routine custody exchange turned chaotic when a car carrying three children was shot at in Richmond over the weekend, police said.
During a custody agreement, an argument broke out between a mother and Jesus Fernando Ramos Prado in the 3500 block of Nevin Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Saturday. As the mother tried to run away, Prado allegedly shot and struck the vehicle several times, Richmond police said.
Police said Prado, 43, was the father of two of the three children.
Two of the three children are under 2 years old. According to police, no one in the car was hit.
Prado fled and hid under the crawlspace of a home in the 3600 block of Barrett Avenue, where he was found shortly thereafter with the help of drones, a K-9 and other law enforcement.
As he fled, Prado allegedly threw away the gun used in the shooting, which later turned out to be stolen, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, child abuse, violating a restraining order, domestic violence, possession of a stolen and loaded firearm and several other offenses, police said.
