Calcutta: Police are investigating a complaint against a Trinamool Congress coordinator in Diamond Harbor who allegedly tried to extort Rs5,000 from the mother of a disabled boy.
The defendant reportedly held a kangaroo court on Friday, threatened the woman in her 40s, allegedly seen in a compromising position with a man, with tonsure and ordered her to pay a fine of 5,000 rupees. Fearing the agony, the woman fled home.
Diamond Harbor SP Abhijit Banerjee said it was a serious offense and the culprits would be brought to justice.
The defendant could not be reached. Gautam Adhikari, the chairman of the local Trinamool youth convention, said he was unaware of the incident.
