A Rimersburg man pulls a gun on a couple during a custody exchange, according to police

TOBY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — A Rimersburg man faces multiple charges after he allegedly pointed a handgun with a laser sight at two people during a custody exchange, according to state police in Clarion.

Court documents indicate a 69-year-old man Terry Alan painter is charged with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment following the Sept. 15 incident at a residence on Route 68 in Toby Township, Clarion County.

According to PSP Clarion, the victims arrived at the home for a custody exchange at approximately 6:15 p.m. on September 15 when Painter came out of the house with a handgun. Police said Painter pointed the gun at both victims and trained the red laser sight on them while his finger was on the trigger.

According to the criminal complaint, Painter made several threats during the encounter, including, “If this gun goes off, you will know.”

When questioned by police, Painter initially claimed the laser sight wasn't working, but then said he was testing it, investigators said. He also told police that the gun only contained “dummy cartridges,” according to the complaint.

Police recovered the handgun and confirmed it had a working red laser sight and was loaded with practice ammunition, the complaint states.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 11 before District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller.
