According to police, a man was injured in the custody battle and his dog was fatally shot

DETROIT — A man was injured and his dog killed in a shooting sparked by a custody battle Tuesday, May 30, in Detroit, police said.

Detroit police officers responded to a reported shooting on Murray Hill Street Tuesday, WJBK reports. Upon arrival, they found an injured man and a dead dog in an apartment building. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. His identity has not been released.

Investigators believe the victim’s ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a child, and her boyfriend came to the victim’s home, the report said. An altercation then led to a shootout.

The suspects fled in a green Dodge Journey, the report said. The police are looking for them. Her identity has not been disclosed.
