Alabama lady convicted of bombing her boyfriend’s truck in custody battle

An Alabama woman was convicted of conspiracy with a friend to bomb the pickup truck of her estranged friend who survived the explosion.

Court records show a Montgomery federal judge convicted Ashley Nicole Haydt, 36, of Dothan on Thursday on charges of explosives and conspiracy. WTVY-TV reports that her co-defendant Sylvio Joseph King previously pleaded guilty and testified against Haydt during the four-day trial.

Authorities claim King worked with Haydt when he bought gunpowder, a pipe, and other supplies to make a remote-controlled bomb. The two allegedly came on the scene during a legal dispute between Haydt and a former friend with whom she has a child.

In October 2017, a bomb exploded in Haydt’s ex-boyfriend’s work car, injuring the man. Police say King sent a message to Haydt afterwards saying he “looked into the problem.”

Haydt went to a lawyer after the explosion and implicated King, but denied her own involvement. A federal grand jury charged them after an investigation, and King pleaded guilty last year.

The victim survived, and state court records show that Haydt and the man are still involved in custody proceedings that were delayed due to federal legal proceedings. A judge has not yet set a date for the conviction of Haydt.
