A custody battle led to a knife attack at a Subway restaurant in Odenton, police said. The victim and suspect were both hospitalized.

ODENTON, MD — A man was stabbed to death outside a Subway restaurant Thursday afternoon during a custody battle in Odenton, police said.

Officials said the victim and suspect were hospitalized after the brawl at the Piney Orchard mall, also known as Piney Orchard Marketplace.
Authorities said the victim was stabbed in the upper body and is in serious condition. Police assume he survived.
The suspect suffered an unknown minor injury, officials said.
There is no danger to the public.

Police said the victim was on the subway with his girlfriend and her child at 8765 Piney Orchard Parkway.
Officials said the suspect, a former partner of the girlfriend and father of the child, arrived at the restaurant.
An argument ensued and the suspect attempted to grab the child, authorities said.

Police said the victim intervened and a physical fight ensued with the suspect, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim.
When Patch arrived at around 1:50 p.m., six police cars were blocking the road. They left the area just before 3:00 p.m
The subway was still closed as of 3:15 p.m. The surrounding shops remained open.

Officers said they made no arrests.
Investigators are still investigating, so no charges have been filed.
Trina Green was on her way to a nail appointment when she saw officers coming down Telegraph Road.

Green came to the nail salon, which is next to Subway, and saw police cars blocking the parking lot.
Green said she saw someone lying on the ground with handcuffs.
She also said she saw a boy crying outside.
“I could see it was an active crime scene,” Green told Patch. “I hope everyone is doing well physically.”
