A custody dispute ended with a shootout between at least two people in Victory Lane in Aberdeen just before noon on Christmas Eve. It is unclear whether the child was at the scene.
Aberdeen Police Capt. Shannon Darling told Sandhills Sentinel at the scene that one of the shooters was shot in the back with a shotgun and taken to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Another shooter is at large. Police said the shooting was an isolated incident.
Two houses were hit by bullets, bullet casings were scattered in the yard and on the street. Officers placed evidence markers on 18 shell casings from shotguns and handguns.
A block from the crime scene, police recovered a handgun used by one of the shooters.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
