In addition to fame, glitz and glamour on the silver screen, many celebrities face deep personal conflicts, including disputes over custody of their children.
Known for their talent and charisma, these celebrities have also shared their heartbreaking side of the legal battles and emotional turmoil in the custody battle.
Despite the wealth and hectic pace of their lives, some of them go to bed at night with a heavy heart, knowing that their parental rights are being challenged.
Per Second News took a closer look at some Nigerian celebrities who have bravely spoken about their experiences with custody battles.
Nigerian singer Davido recently made headlines due to his ongoing custody battle with Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child.
He is fighting for joint custody of his daughter Imade and emphasizes that he has fulfilled his fatherly duties over the years.
Sophia claimed that the singer had failed to meet his financial obligations to his daughter, leaving her with costs such as rent, living and travel expenses, healthcare and all other related expenses.
Following their court date on July 5, 2024, Davido addressed the custody battle in an emotional series of posts on Instagram, telling Sophia that she could keep Imade.
However, the case is still before court.
In a similar case, Big Brother Naija's Queen Mercy Atang is embroiled in a custody battle with Lord Lamba, the father of her child, according to a petition dated February 16, 2024, that circulated online in early March.
The application was submitted to the Lagos State Family Court in Ikeja. In it, Lord Lamba sought sole custody of their daughter on the grounds that he had been denied access to Keilah despite regularly paying child support.
However, on May 23, 2024, a Magistrate Court in Lagos adjourned the custody proceedings between Queen Mercy and Lord Lamba to July 18, 2024, as Lord Lamba failed to appear in court on that day.
Nigerian comedian Buchi also spoke openly about his custody battle with his former in-laws in November 2023.
In a series of Instagram posts, he repeatedly accused his ex-wife and Rukky's parents of denying him access to his children, who were in their care in the United States of America.
He explained that he could only speak to his children when his estranged in-laws made the calls.
Buchi also claimed that every call resulted in a block, meaning he could no longer call back.
He claimed that they demanded that he pay $300,000 a month in child support, money that he said he paid, but in return he was not given access to his children.
The following month, he happily announced that he now had access to his children.
Oladotun Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, is also embroiled in a complex custody battle.
In October 2023, he claimed that his ex-wife Taiwo denied him access to their daughters despite them having agreed on joint custody.
He stressed that he would defend himself against her and her brother Dbanj.
On his Instagram page, he again accused the singer of helping Taiwo hide her children from him.
In response, Taiwo posted on her Instagram account that the pensioner was lying, knew where his children were and had access to them.
These stories shed light on the often hidden issues celebrities face in their personal lives and remind us that behind the glamour, they too struggle with difficult and emotional situations.
