Delhi High Court orders former J&K boss Omar Abdullah to pay Rs 1.5 million a month in child support to estranged wife Payal Nath. 1 point 5 lakh monthly maintenance for estranged wife Payal-Nath

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has ordered former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Vice-President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah to pay 1.5 lakh rupees a month in alimony to his estranged wife Payal Nath, sources said. It is known that of the total amount, Rs. 60,000 per month covers Abdullah’s son’s education costs.

Judge Subramaniam Prasad passed the order while hearing Payal Abdullah’s petition on Thursday. Payal appealed to the Delhi High Court in July 2018 and challenged the trial court’s April 26, 2018 decision. In the proceeding under section 125 of the CrPC, the trial court had ordered 75,000 rupees a month for maintenance to Payal Abdullah and 25,000 rupees a month for her son until he is 18 years old.

Payal had approached the Delhi High Court, stating that the amount of alimony ordered by the lower court was insufficient. Payal had argued that with such high expenses, her son could not afford his studies and daily expenses. She said her son is not yet able to support his own expenses and is depending on his parents to pay for it.

Appropriately, in 2016 the trial court had denied Omar Abdullah’s petition for divorce on the grounds that he had failed to prove Payal’s allegations of cruelty and abandonment for divorce. Abdullah had filed for divorce and stated that the relationship between him and his wife was so broken that living together was no longer possible for them.

Omar Abdullah has appealed the trial court’s decision to the Delhi High Court. It is noteworthy that in 1994 Omar Abdullah, son of former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah, entered into a love marriage to Payal Nath, daughter of Army Gen. Ramnath. Omar Abdullah was Marketing Director at the Oberoi Hotel in Delhi and Payal Nath was also working there at the time.

Here both fell in love and then married. Payal and Omar have two sons, Zaheer and Zameer. Both separated after 17 years of marriage. Payal is now taking care of her transport business in Delhi. She has lived separately from Abdullah since 2009. Both sons live with Payal.
