Ex-governor’s son involved in bitter custody battle

The son of a former Rift Valley governor is embroiled in a custody case with a woman who claims his only job is to sleep, smoke, drink and play video games.

The case has been pending in court since last year. It has never been heard. It was supposed to take place on Thursday but was pushed back to November this year.

In her court papers, the woman states that the man abandoned and neglected his parental responsibilities because he failed to pay for the maintenance.

She claims the man never bothered to pay the tuition for the minors.

The two married at the Kenya School of Monetary-Ruaraka in 2015. The marriage was blessed with three children.

They lived in Nairobi as husband and wife since 2018 until the man allegedly abandoned them in 2021.

Documents show that although the man is unemployed, he is involved in family businesses where he is a co-director of multi-million dollar companies and also owns huge plots of land, enabling him to provide for the children.

“He refused to take a job, turned down numerous job offers with flimsy excuses, and spent all his time sleeping, smoking, drinking, or playing video games.”

The wife wants the husband to cover monthly expenses of Sh 112,000 for the children. She says the man should put aside Sh60,000 for groceries, Sh10,000 for clothes, Sh15,000 for medical expenses, Sh5,000 for electricity, Sh4,000 for water, Sh15,000 for housekeeping and Sh3,000 for gas.

But the father says in his papers that the mother is a person with an unstable personality, callous and unloving, and has constantly caused him mental and emotional anguish and embarrassment, and eroded his self-esteem.

“She caused untold suffering to me and the minors throughout the marriage, through physical assaults and verbal abuse in front of the children, her continued lack of planning and foresight, financial and social neglect, and failure to show love and affection .” ,” he says

He claims the wife frustrated him and the children by disappearing from the marital home to unknown locations and not returning home on time or by not honestly reporting her whereabouts.

He says he even supported her during her master’s degree and took care of all her needs.

His family also gave them a house to stay in Nairobi. He explains that in November 2021, due to severe depression caused by the woman’s mental and physical abuse, he moved out of the home to seek medical help.

He is asking the court to give him custody of the children, arguing that he has faithfully fulfilled part of his obligation but the mother has not.

“I would like to say that I have no problem taking care of my children as I have in the past and that I will take any opportunity that arises to be with them and consciously plan my work schedule in a way that will serve my children.” coming,” he says

He adds that he is willing to attend to all of the above needs in addition to fulfilling other personal and family responsibilities to ensure the minors are comfortable should I be awarded custody.

He has since filed for divorce, which is also pending in court.
