Florida House debates anti-Semitism, child custody laws – NBC 6 South Florida

The Florida House of Representatives is scheduled to consider 17 bills in session Wednesday, including measures to combat anti-Semitism and ensure safety in certain custody situations.

One of the bills (HB 187), filed by Rep. Mike Gottlieb, D-Davie, would add a definition of anti-Semitism to state law and provide examples.

Another bill (HB 385), filed by Rep. Joel Rudman, R-Navarre, and Rep. Hillary Cassel, D-Dania Beach, would allow courts to require that parents who share custody of children ” Secure Exchange Points” at the county sheriff’s office use.

The bill is called the “Cassie Carli Law,” after a mother who disappeared in 2022 — and was later found dead — after meeting the father of her child in northwest Florida for a so-called timeshare swap to carry out.

Another example of a bill scheduled for hearing is a proposal (HB 461) filed by Rep. Carolina Amesty, R-Windermere, that would allow women who have recently given birth to do so upon request to be exempt from serving as a jury.
