KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — The department chief is responsible for taking action in relation to all orders, particularly payroll deduction orders, ruled by the Syariah Court against officials under their supervision, particularly in relation to alimony payments.

Through a circular signed today by Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, the move is in line with the government’s intent to protect the welfare of women and children affected by divorce problems.

“Pending acceptance by the relevant authorities, this policy will be extended as a whole to all state public services, public corporations and local authorities,” he said.

On March 8, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, speaking at the Women’s Day celebrations, announced that the government had amended the Financial Services Act to help women affected by divorce problems after being frozen by court order.
