City attorney Silas Jakakimba’s parental concerns came into play after the custody battle for his son broke out on Saturday, May 9.
In a statement released by Kenyans.co.ke, Jakakimba noted that a group of women allegedly abducted his son from his Nairobi home while he was out of town.
Jakakimba, who is also a longtime adviser to Azimio la Umoja President’s standard-bearer Raila Odinga, confirmed that he is the child’s legal guardian.

He instructed his attorney to treat the matter with the utmost respect in the interest of his son. Jakakimba noted that the incident brought up bitter concerns about custody and that such a matter should not concern an innocent child.
Jakakimba added that he had to cut short his trip to Kisumu County to take his son back as part of his custody rights.
“I have authorized and retained my attorney to handle and administer this bit in a respectful manner that ensures my son’s safety and protection – so on the one hand it becomes an encouragement and a learning window for many out there.
“Meanwhile, while I was out of town early this morning, a group of women abducted my son from his playground at my Nairobi home. This matter, which is currently with the police, remains sensitive because a minor has been implicated.
“I have just returned from a family commitment that I had to complete – in Kisumu to ensure I personally retrieve him and restore him to his legal and rightful custody in my space,” he noted.
The incident brings the question of custody between the parents into play – that has been on everyone’s lips in the recent past.
This comes after the Nakuru High Court ruled that men could have custody of children under the age of nine.
Judge Joel Ngugi found that there should be no reason to limit custody to only female parents — unless one of them is deemed unfit or unfit to fill the role.
