What sets her apart, according to Frese, is her “client-centric” and “pragmatic” approach to each case, exploring all possible avenues to resolve an issue and prevent it from going to court. “I advise clients to let me do a ‘college try’ to find a solution or at least isolate the problems,” she said. “If we don’t find out, we will go to court.”

With regard to divorce, for example, Frese believes in exploring alternatives to litigation, promoting mediation as a first step to create common ground and minimize costs. “While a jury trial is preferable, having children with the person is not pragmatic. On top of that, it takes a special kind of person who wants to spend thousands of dollars to go to court and fight with their ex,” she explained.

In criminal law, Frese is guided by the wishes of her client and emphasizes that there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution in defense practice. She said a client wishing to plead guilty to mitigate the harm and one wishing to be fully exonerated of the allegations would each receive individualized treatment to achieve the desired results.

In addition to her expertise in state criminal matters, Frese has expertise in state criminal defense. Aware of the complexities of the federal justice system and the serious consequences of federal crimes, she provides strategic guidance on harm reduction and guidance in federal sentencing guidelines.

After graduating from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2005, Frese worked as a prosecutor in Fort Dodge, Iowa for approximately seven years. During this time she gained court experience handling a wide variety of cases, ranging from minor misdemeanor to first-degree murder.

In 2014, she returned to her hometown of Marshalltown, where she majored in federal defense. She believes this opportunity allowed her to gain a thorough understanding of the intricacies involved in high-risk federal cases.
