We have disturbing news from the Las Vegas, Nevada suburb of Summerlin, where a fatal shooting occurred during a deposition in a child custody case.
According to local sources, the victims are Las Vegas personal injury attorney Dennis Prince and his wife Ashley Prince. The shooter was identified as Las Vegas attorney Joe Houston II. Prince represented his wife (Houston's former daughter-in-law) in the case, while Houston represented his own son, Dylan. The elder Houston was also found dead. 8 News Now, a local CBS affiliate, has more details on the shooting:
Shortly after 10 a.m., police received a call about a shooting at a business in the 10800 block of Charleston Boulevard, near Pavilion Center Drive.
On Monday afternoon, LVMPD Lt. Jason Johansson said there were seven people in the room during the statement. Johansson said Joe Houston targeted his two victims without identifying the shooter or the victims. …
“The suspect was not killed by the police. We believe he took his own life,” [LVMPD Sheriff Kevin] McMahill added Monday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Prince's firm issued a statement regarding his death: “It is with deep sadness that Prince Law Group would like to thank everyone who has reached out with heartfelt messages of concern and compassion over the tragic violence that occurred in our offices this morning “We ask you to respect the privacy of the affected families.”
The Nevada Attorney General's Office also commented on the disturbing incident, saying, “The Nevada Attorney General's Office is shocked by the tragic events of the multiple shootings this morning at a Summerlin law office. The shootings are horrific and heartbreaking.” The Nevada Bar offers therapy sessions and trauma response counseling.
That's terribly sad. We here at Above the Law would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dennis and Ashley Prince during these difficult times.
