Love Stories: Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne overcome infidelity, medicine and violence to rejoice 40 years of marriage
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne perhaps one of the most enduring yet unlikely romances in Hollywood history.
The legendary British couple who fell in love over a mutual love affair music in the early 70s, celebrated his 40th marriage anniversary in 2022.
Their relationship was marked by infidelity, violence and even a brief separation. But the Osbournes always found their way back to each other.

Sharon and Ozzy met in 1970 when Don Arden, Sharon’s father, was leading the rock band Black Sabbath.
Sharon was just 18 at the time, and their relationship didn’t turn romantic until nine years later, in 1979. Ozzy was 22 and about to marry his first wife, Thelma Riley, just months after he met her.
Ozzy and Thelma would welcome a daughter, Jessica, in 1972 and a son, Louis, in 1975.
The rock singer is believed to have cheated on Thelma with various women, including Sharon, whom he began dating during his first marriage.
The Hellraiser hitmaker has previously revealed his shame at repeatedly cheating on his ex-wife in the ’70s and ’80s.
In his biography I’m Ozzythe 73-year-old said he guided Thelma through “hell” at the peak of his rock star career.
“I sent that woman through hell. I should never have married her,” he wrote. “She didn’t deserve it: she wasn’t a bad person and she wasn’t a bad wife.”

When Ozzy and Thelma’s marriage fell apart, Ozzy turned his attention to Sharon.
Five years his junior, Sharon Ozzy was helping to kickstart his solo career when he was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 for his drug and alcohol abuse.
The couple married just three years later in 1982, the same year that Ozzy’s divorce from Thelma was finalized.
Their wedding photos are etched in the memories of every Osbourne fan. For the bride, imagine a classic 80’s mullet, high neck dress and shaggy hair.
Ozzy and Sharon then welcomed three children of their own: Jack, Kelly and Aimee.

In 1989, however, things took a dark turn. Ozzy was arrested for allegedly trying to strangle Sharon during an alcohol-related rage.
Sharon later decided not to press charges and the singer spent three months in rehab following the incident.
“I had no idea who was sitting across from me on the sofa, but it wasn’t my husband. He gets to a stage where he gets this look in his eyes with the shutters down and I just couldn’t get through to him,” Sharon recounted in the documentary Biography: Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne.

As their three children grew older, the Osbournes decided to turn their fame into a family affair.
They started an MTV reality show, The Osbournesin 2002, which starred two of their children, Jack and Kelly, and ran for four seasons.
The Osbournes gave fans an unfiltered glimpse into the quirky couple’s daily life, while also making their children a household name.
Ozzy and Sharon’s relationship was dealt a devastating blow in 2016 when the couple brief separation after 33 years of marriage.
The rock icon has been accused of having an affair with his hairstylist, Michelle Pugh. Ozzy later admitted this GQ Magazine that he had cheated and revealed he was “not proud” of his infidelity.
“I’ve done some pretty outrageous things in my life. I regret cheating on my wife. I don’t do it anymore,” Ozzy said.
“I got my reality check and I’m glad she didn’t leave me. I’m not proud of that. I was done with myself. But I broke her heart.”
That same year, Ozzy admitted in a statement Us WeeklyHe had cheated on Sharon with several women and battled a sex addiction.
Though it wasn’t enough to tear the couple apart. Sharon eventually forgave Ozzy and welcomed him back with open arms.

She confessed that she reignited that feeling while “falling out of love” with her husband.
“35 years with someone is a hell of a long time. And I think I fell in love with my husband and then fell back on it,” Sharon revealed on an episode of The conversation in 2017.
“I just had a newfound love,” she added. “and I respected him because he’s genuinely trying to be a better person.”
The couple renewed their vows in Las Vegas in 2017 after reuniting after their marriage fell apart.
“For me, it was actually our real wedding day. That’s the day I’ll remember,” Ozzy said Hi! Magazine.
“Sharon and I have been through so much, and this really feels like a fresh start.”
And it was definitely a fresh start. On July 4, 2022, the couple celebrated their 40th anniversary.

They celebrated the occasion with gushing tributes on Instagram.
“2022 is a special year for me. It marks 40 years of marriage to my beloved Ozzy. We first met when I was 18, for over 52 years we have been friends, lovers, husband and wife, grandparents and soul mates,” Sharon wrote. “Always by each other’s side. I love you Ozzy.”
Sharon and Ozzy’s controversial romance and marriage feels like the plot of a movie at times.
And it seems that Hollywood executives agree. In October 2021, it was announced that the couple’s love story would be the basis for a new biopic.
“Our relationship was wild, crazy and dangerous at times, but it was our undying love that kept us together,” Sharon said diversity.
