Man shot lifeless over custody battle in Kasna, Higher Noida

A senior police official said Naveen’s wife died by suicide in 2020 and her family members blamed her in-laws for her death

A man was allegedly shot by his brother-in-law in the Kasna area of the Noida metropolitan area over a family feud on Thursday. Police said the victim was pursuing a court case against his in-laws over custody of his child.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Naveen, a resident of Dankaur. He was married to a woman from Sadullapur village and they have three children – a daughter and two sons.

A senior police official said Naveen’s wife died by suicide in 2020 and her family members blamed her in-laws for her death.

Naveen and his family members were also booked and one case of dowry death was recorded. He had also been in prison for about four months in the past and was out on bail.

Police said one of Naveen’s sons lived with his in-laws after the death of his wife and that he had filed a court case to seek custody of the child. “On Thursday, both parties agreed to give Naveen custody of the child and her lawyers went with Naveen to retrieve the child from Ladpura village,” said Vishal Pandey, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner.

“Naveen’s brother-in-law Deepak came on a motorbike with his friend and opened fire on him. About four shots were fired and two bullets hit him in the wrist and shoulder. He was taken to hospital and is now out of danger,” ADCP Pandey said.

Police said Deepak, his parents and an unidentified person have been registered under Section 307 (Attempted Murder) of the Indian Penal Code. “Deepak and his parents are on the run, but we will catch them soon,” said a police officer.
