Miranda Lambert makes divorce sound so funny in her unreleased song “Alimony” and plays it live for the first time

A good old-fashioned divorce song.

Over the weekend, Miranda Lambert started teasing an unreleased song called “Alimony,” which is incredibly funny and cheeky in a way that I missed from her.

And during a headlining show at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California, she played it live for the first time and to me it already sounds like a hit.

You can probably bet it will be included on her upcoming (unofficially announced) studio album, and in many ways it feels like the prologue or backstory to her song with the Pistol Annies, “Got My Name Changed Back.”

In the lyrics, she worries that her marriage is about to end. However, she consoles herself with the fact that she will receive a nice sum of alimony in the event of a divorce:

“You start going out
Only one thing can comfort me
If you leave me in San Antone
Think about maintenance”

And so it is…

There are so many great breakup songs in country music, even great ones that came out this year, but songs about divorce are harder to find and they're usually very sad, and of course that makes sense.

I'm not married, I've never been married, and I find divorce incredibly sad, but somehow she makes it sound like it's so much fun and I really can't WAIT to hear the studio version of it.

Just from what I heard at the live performance, I can imagine it quickly becoming a fan favorite and a girl power anthem that Miranda does so well. Check it out:

Miranda has released two songs in the last few months, including “Wranglers” and “Dammit Randy.”

“Wranglers”

“Damn it, Randy”
