Miranda Lambert releases new single, divorce anthem Alimony, and surprises fans with news

Miranda Lambert has announced details of her upcoming album Postcards From Texas – and the third single is a rousing divorce anthem called “Alimony.”

“I called the lawyer in Dallas that lives in that palace. So I know he's good at winning when you think you're missing out…” she sings in the pre-chorus, before the chorus jokes about the words alimony and the Alamo: “If you leave me in San Antone, don't forget the alimony.”

“My parents were private investigators in Dallas, Texas, and worked on a lot of divorce cases in high-profile neighborhoods, so it wasn't hard to write this. I've heard about it my whole life,” said Miranda, who is happily married to her husband, Brendan McLoughlin.

“We intentionally used every Texas metaphor we could think of. We wanted to take something pretty shitty and put some humor back into it. I mean, the guy gets out of it pretty easily by just moving back in with his mom,” Miranda added.

Her new album, Postcards From Texas, is her ninth studio album and features her collaborating with Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Jon Randall. It is her first album since Palomino (2022); she has previously released “Wranglers” and “Damnit Randy,” which she wrote with her husband.

The song is about a relationship that has fallen apart, and Miranda sings, “Damn, Randy, did you ever even listen to me?/You were standing bone dry in the middle of a waterfall/You lived in the dark but couldn't see the light of day/We looked like a picture but you couldn't put it in a frame.”

It was released just weeks before a video was captured of Brendan, a former New York City police officer, dancing with other women at Miranda's Nashville bar, Casa Rosa.

Brendan met Miranda just two months before the couple married in January 2019.

“We weren't together very long before we got married, and that's when we really, really, really got to know each other,” she told Sirius XM about the couple's move to Tennessee after the wedding. “It was just the two of us, with no distractions, on my farm outside of Nashville. And so I was really grateful for that, because it really made us strong.”

Miranda was married to country star Blake Shelton from 2011 until their separation in 2015. He is now married to his The Voice actress and No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani.
