Star Team India pacesetter Mohammed Siraj climbed to the top of the ICC rankings as the number one bowler in ODI cricket on Wednesday.

Siraj, who has enjoyed a phenomenal rise to the top in recent months, has had very convincing games in recent home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The rights armer passed New Zealand quickie Trent Boult and Australian sailor Josh Hazelwood to be crowned top bowler in ODI’s for the first time in his short career.

Mohammad Siraj’s pace and momentum and talent for smashing top-flight wickets helped India to a series of victories over Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

The pacer, who has been fickle in all formats over the past 12 months, was the leading wicket-taker with nine wickets in India’s three-game home win over Sri Lanka and then demolished the New Zealand side with a four-wicket in the opening game of the recently concluded ODI -Row.

The consistent performances have propelled Siraj to the top of the ODI mountain with 729 rating points, overtaking Josh Hazelwood by two points.

Siraj, 28, is only the second Indian bowler after Jasprit Bumrah to claim the top spot in ODIs.

After his comeback to the ODI team in February last year, Siraj has won 37 wickets in 21 games. He was also named to the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year last week.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma has heaped praise on the young fast bowler, saying Siraj understands what the team expects from him and is delivering.

Rohit said that Siraj is full of skills as he can take wickets at any stage of the game, adding that the more he plays the better he gets.

Fellow Pacer Mohammed Shami has moved up 11 spots to 32 on the ODI list.

On the batting spectrum, sensational hitter Shubham Gill, who has smashed a double ton and a ton in three games against the Kiwis, jumps to No. 6, displacing hitting icon Virat Kohli, who falls down to No. 7, while skipper Rohit Sharma jumped two spots to maintain eighth place in the top 10 list.
