Nrs: little one custody battle after information mismatch | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The state youth welfare committee on Tuesday opened an investigation into a complaint by NRS Medical College Hospital that a newborn was taken to the hospital with false information. The child will be handed over to the parents after proper examination.
A five-day-old child was referred to hospital from a nursing home in Baruipur. The male child was born in the nursing home on Thursday night, but had developed acute shortness of breath. However, the child’s discharge certificate mentioned him as a female child. Given the child’s condition, the NRS hospital immediately admitted him to SNCU. But the false documents prompted the hospital to admit the child as the baby of an unknown person.
After intensive medical treatment at the NRS hospital, the child recovered and was due to be discharged on Monday. The father came to take the child home, but the hospital refused. The hospital informed him that he was not the one who admitted the child to the NRS and also informed him of the misrepresentation of the child’s gender. He explained that he works in another federal state and was not present when the child was born. “We have to follow due process. We turned the child over to the youth welfare committee,” a hospital official said. The CWC has already asked parents to submit their identification documents and hospital records.
