PM: The Syariah Court docket is proposing divorces, alimony to be determined collectively

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will propose that Syariah Court judges make divorce and alimony decisions simultaneously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says.

He said this is to prevent issues from dragging too long to the point of bullying ex-wives and the children.

“Right now, after the divorce is finalized, the case will not be brought up until later to resolve alimony issues. Sometimes that takes time.

“And so we have agreed that both divorce and alimony will be decided at the same time and this will allow all alimony procedures to be expedited,” he told a media conference at Parliament House on Wednesday (March 23).

Earlier, Ismail Sabri held a meeting with representatives of Malaysia’s Syariah Lawyers Association (PGSM) to discuss issues related to the Syariah Laws.
