Real estate agent Robert Farris Weigel, 43, had a domestic dispute with his ex-wife, Megan Monette, during a Fourth of July custody exchange in Richland Park. On July 5, Monette went to the Family Safety Center to report the incident. She told officers that Weigel had visitation rights from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. because of the holiday. Monette added that some of the previous exchanges had not gone well, so she began recording them. Monette further explained that her 5-year-old daughter does not like going with Weigel and often refuses. According to Monette, Weigel became angry when she tried to film the exchange with her cellphone.
Weigel raised his face to the phone and ripped it from her hand, leaving her fingers raw. She then said he bumped into her and stepped on her foot while trying to rip their daughter from her hands, causing her to become frightened. She provided police with footage of the incident that corroborated her statements. Officers then obtained a warrant for Weigel's arrest that same day. Weigel was later taken into custody on July 24 for domestic violence.
