Richardson’s grandmother died over custody battle

Custody disputes are very contentious, especially when children are involved. One party believes they are suitable for the child while the other believes the same. Sometimes these disputes can end in tragedy. This is exactly what happened at a Richardson Starbucks on Monday evening, April 18th.

Tranisa Octavin Trana Watts, 23, wanted to see her daughter, who her ex-boyfriend’s mother had sole custody of. Watts called the child’s grandmother, 52-year-old Kentoria Nicole Edwards, and they agreed to meet at a Richardson Starbucks. There appears to have been a dispute over custody of the child.

Police began treating Edwards at the scene until paramedics could arrive. Edwards later died in hospital from her injuries.

Police were able to take the 3-year-old child’s mother, Tranisa Octavin Trana Watts, into custody on the Starbucks premises. Watts tried to walk with the child.

Richardson Police have charged Tranisa Octavin Trana Watts…

Posted by Richardson Police Department on Tuesday April 19, 2022

The 3-year-old child was not injured, nor were other people inside the Starbucks. Richardson Police are still investigating this murder.

This is so sad on several levels. They have a child who lost their grandmother who was their primary caregiver and now that child has to move again to find another home. Why the father or this mother does not participate in the life of the child was not mentioned. We do not know this family, but we can certainly offer a prayer of consolation for them.
