“On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies assigned to North Patrol responded to a residence on Georgia Drive in North Highlands for a fight involving 30 people and possible shots fired. Upon arrival, they contacted several people who said a man had been shot but was taken to the hospital by family members or friends.
Shortly thereafter, officers learned that the victim, described as a 33-year-old adult male, had been transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.
Sheriff's homicide and crime scene investigators were on scene, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Based on their investigation, investigators determined that the victim and his girlfriend were involved in an argument with her ex-boyfriend, later identified as 30-year-old Jarell Triplett, over custody arrangements. During the argument, Triplett shot the victim and fled the scene.
At approximately 10 a.m., Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau investigators located Triplett in the Sacramento area and took him into custody without incident. Triplett was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is not eligible for bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 18, 2023 at 3 p.m..”
