KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Reuters) – Former wife of caretaker Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man today filed mutaah (consolation gift) and RM15.34 million in alimony claims in Shah Alam Syariah High Court here.

According to a statement released to the media, Sova Ali, an Indonesian citizen, demanded RM15 million from Azlan die Mutaah after their divorce without a valid reason, nor did he receive the court’s permission.

Sova also requested RM344,250 in child support payments, claiming that she received no financial support from Azlan throughout their marriage.

The statement also noted that Sova will file a marital property claim to receive various properties they acquired during their marriage in Selangor, Perlis and abroad and to claim nafkah iddah (alimony payments).

“These two cases (claims) were brought before the Sulh Council (mediation) at the Shah Alam Syariah High Court on December 15,” the statement said.

Syarie attorney Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar, representing Sova, confirmed the matter when contacted and said that Syariah High Court Registrar Rashidah Sapingi @ Shafie allowed them to file the subpoena and writ in deliver Perlis.

On August 25, Syarie Judge Abdullah Zuhdee Ab Halim upheld the dissolution of the couple’s marriage to a single talaq in Hulu Langat Lower Syariah Court in a closed session.

The Syarie Judge upheld the divorce under Section 57 of the Islamic Family Law (Selangor State) 2003 after being satisfied with the testimonies of both parties to Azlan’s proclamation of the Talaq in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 23.
