DeSantis, whose presidential campaign is currently doing well, decided to take a break from hurting children and marginalized communities to do something bad to his own base of right-wing Republican white women. He signed a measure that bans permanent alimony and rewrites the formula for other types of alimony. Only existing, non-changeable agreements are not subject to the new conditions. If they are mutable, as many are, that means a surge of cases in Florida will soon resume and will predominantly harm Florida women.
'This is a death sentence for me': Florida Republican women say they will switch parties after DeSantis passes child support bill.
“He (DeSantis) just impoverished all of Florida's older women and I know that at least 3,000 women across the state of Florida are switching to the Democrats and we will fight him forever,” Camille Fiveash, a Milton Republican on permanent support he said in a telephone interview on Friday.
Fiveash, a 63-year-old with serious medical conditions, said she could not afford another legal battle over child support.
The bill also includes a provision that would make it more difficult for judges to award alimony that exceeds 25% of the payor's gross monthly income.
Jan Killilea is the founder of the First Wives Advocacy Group, most of whose members receive permanent alimony payments. She praised DeSantis when he vetoed a similar measure last year. But as you may remember, last year was an election year. DeSantis doesn’t care.
“On behalf of the thousands of women our group represents, we are deeply disappointed in the governor’s decision to sign the child support reform bill. We believe that by signing him, he has put older women in a situation that will lead to financial devastation.
The so-called “family values” party has just contributed to the erosion of the institution of marriage in Florida,” Jan Killilea, a 63-year-old Boca Raton woman who founded the group a decade ago, told The News Service of Florida in a text message on Friday.
Now I really feel for those who knew this was coming and understood what a monster DeSantis is. Still, I find it very difficult to feel sorry for all of these white women who supported DeSantis and his sycophants in the state legislature and who only now don't give a shit because he finally decided to screw them personally. These are the very same women who consistently vote against their own interests in every election and make us all suffer for it.
Maybe fighting against putting a mask on a child during a pandemic shouldn't have been your main concern, Karen. Oh, is that cruel?
Proud member of the Leopards Eating Faces Party proclaims, “It's not like they're going to eat my face!”
Well, that also applies to bullying children, which you agreed with. They also agreed with the state forcibly taking children away from their parents because they suffer from gender dysphoria.
It was okay for you to kidnap migrant families for a political stunt. You're still totally cool when it comes to rampant gun violence.
In other words, I don't care that the leopard finally decided to eat your face.
But I'll definitely send you lots of tots and pears.
