A prominent Las Vegas lawyer and his wife were shot to death Monday morning by the woman's former father-in-law before the suspected gunman fatally shot himself during a deposition, authorities and reports say.

Colleagues identified the two victims as attorney Dennis Prince and his wife Ashley Prince, who were allegedly shot by another attorney, Joseph W. Houston II, at the Prince Law Group office about 15 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip around 10 a.m. in Las Vegas Review Journal reported.

“According to our interviews, they were here in the legal group conducting a deposition hearing involving child custody,” Lt. Jason Johansson of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police during a press conference.

The custody agreement involved two children Ashley Prince shared with her ex-husband before the shooting began, sources told KTNV.

The accused shooter represented his son in the court proceedings.

Ashley Prince was previously married to another lawyer, Dylan Edward Houston, before divorcing her in 2021, the Review-Journal reported, citing court records.

According to the newspaper, Dennis Prince took over the legal representation of his wife, who was awarded joint custody of the two children she had with Dylan Houston.

On Monday, Ashley Prince filed an “emergency motion for sole custody of the minor children; and for attorneys’ fees and costs,” the newspaper reported.

Dennis and Ashley had just given birth to a new baby, KTNV reported.

Short, gentle lockdowns were imposed on nearby schools but have since been lifted, FOX 5 reported.

Robert Eglet, Prince's former attorney, told the Review-Journal that Prince was one of the best trial lawyers in Nevada.

“It’s a real loss to the community,” Eglet said. “It's terrible. It's a loss to our profession. … This is every family's nightmare when something like this happens. I'm still trying to come to grips with the fact that this actually happened.”
