A Washington woman has pleaded not guilty to her alleged role in a local criminal interference with correctional facility case.
Traci Lynn Canavan, 42, of Everett, pleaded not guilty to the charge Dec. 16 in Lincoln County District Court. She was arrested Nov. 9 in Snohomish County before being transported to Lincoln County.
According to the county jail docket as of Dec. 10, Canavan remains incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on $100,000 bail. Her next hearing is scheduled for January 13th.
She is represented by Ryan Peabody. Assistant District Attorney Lauren O'Neill is prosecuting the case.
Canavan's ex-husband, Almanzo Blake Canavan, 38, of Kalispell, pleaded not guilty to the charges Nov. 25 in district court. His next court hearing is scheduled for January 6th. He is also in jail on $100,000 bail.
According to County Det. Derek Breiland, the grandmother of Canavan's child, came to the sheriff's office on Oct. 24 asking for help finding the boy. She has been the child's legal guardian since 2016. She allowed the child to stay with Blake Canavan for a few weeks in the spring, but he allegedly refused to return the child to her despite multiple court orders requiring him to do so.
The grandmother learned that the child may be in Washington with Canavan's ex-wife, Traci Lynn, who is not the child's mother. Canavan said in telephone conversations with Breiland and the grandmother that he did not know where the child was.
A check of computer records showed the child was in Washington. Breiland asked Snohomish County law enforcement officers to check the address. He ultimately learned from the Everett Police Department that the child was at the home with Traci Canavan and was fine.
The grandmother then had to obtain a court order to have the child returned.
On November 6, Breiland filed another report stating that the grandmother filed requests for the return of her grandson on October 18. An order stated that the child must be returned to the woman within seven days, but this has not yet happened.
Breiland said he called Traci Canavan several times but did not speak to her. According to Breiland, Blake Canavan refused to give him any further information about the child and said he would not return the child.
Breiland called Traci Canavan on Nov. 6, leaving a voicemail and telling her that the child needed to be returned to his grandmother immediately. He reported that he had not heard from her.
Snohomish County Jail records show Traci Canavan was booked on Nov. 9 for judicial transfer.
A conviction on this charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
