CHENNAI: A majority of people view monogamy as a social obligation, according to an internal poll conducted by extramarital dating app Gleeden in January 2022.
While 55% of Gleeden users see monogamy as a social obligation, the remaining 45% assert that they still believe that monogamy is only possible under certain circumstances.
According to the report, one of the top reasons for couples to commit infidelity is boredom (63%), naturalization of infidelity (20%), partner conflicts (10%) and infatuation with a third person (8%).
The survey also highlights that most infidelities occur between the fifth and tenth year of marriage, with 18% occurring between the fifth and seventh year of marriage, 43% during the tenth year of marriage, and 39% at any point in the relationship.
The survey also shows that long-term couples are actually more likely to forgive infidelity than those who have been together for a relatively short time — 44% of users in long-term relationships (longer than five years) would forgive a cheating partner if it where infidelity was all about sex. However, 81% of people who have been in a relationship for less than a year would not forgive their cheating partner.
