- Will Smith spoke to Gayle King about his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.
- “There’s never been infidelity in our marriage,” Smith said, adding that they talk about “everything.”
Will Smith cleared up speculation about his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, saying they had never seen adultery in their 25-year union.
“There has never been infidelity in our marriage,” Smith told Gayle King, who addressed the issue in a new interview for CBS News Sunday Morning, published Sunday.
“Jada and I talk about everything,” added the King Richard star. “And we’ve never surprised each other with anything.”
Also in the interview, King Smith asked, “How do you deal with all the chatter about your marriage?”
In response, the Oscar-nominated actor said: “I’ve decided that chattering about my life can be of use to people. I think that chatter is the first step to having a real conversation and being able to really explore some of the things in your heart are loving or toxic.”

Smith first met Pinkett Smith in 1990 when the actress left the casting office of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the hit sitcom Smith starred in.
“It was love at first sight,” Smith recalled in his self-titled memoir, released in November.
After a brief interaction that day, the stars occasionally crossed paths. But Smith didn’t date Pinkett Smith because he was married to Sheree Zampino (from 1992 to 1995), with whom he welcomed a son named Trey Smith.
Smith and Pinkett Smith married on December 31, 1997. They welcomed two children together: son Jaden Smith (born July 1998) and daughter Willow Smith (born October 2000).
Throughout their marriage, the stars have been vocal about how their relationship has evolved and why they no longer describe themselves as married.
On a 2020 episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith’s Facebook watch show, the Gotham graduate famously sat down with Smith and confirmed that she was in a relationship with the musician amid a split in her marriage August Alsina had.
Pinkett Smith referred to her relationship with Alsina as an “entanglement” and did not see it as a “trespass” in her marriage to Smith since they were separated at the time.

In a cover story for the November 2021 issue of GQ, Smith said that at one point in his marriage to Pinkett Smith, they decided to no longer be monogamous.
Smith said that Pinkett Smith “never believed in conventional marriage” and they had conversations about their relationship.
“For most of our relationship, we chose monogamy and didn’t think of monogamy as the only relationship perfection,” he said.
“We gave each other trust and freedom, believing that everyone must find their own path,” Smith said, adding, “Marriage must not be a prison for us. And I don’t suggest our way to anyone. “
Smith’s interviewer, Wesley Lowery, wrote on his GQ profile that the star “tenderly explained” to him that Pinkett Smith “wasn’t the only one who got involved in other sexual relationships.” However, Smith chose not to elaborate on his comment.
