Woman says her second husband fled with money and gold she received as maintenance | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A 42-year-old woman from Kumaraswamy Layout has filed a police complaint against her second husband, alleging that he eloped with the money and gold she received from her first husband as part of the divorce settlement.
She also claimed that her second husband cheated on several other women after marrying her.
Vijaya (name changed), who lives in south Bengaluru, told police that she had filed for divorce in 2022. As part of the settlement from her first husband, she received Rs 70 lakh in cash and 500 grams of gold. Within a few months, she came in touch with a person named Pradeep through Facebook.
She met him at a hotel and after a few meetings, he informed her that he too was divorced. He proposed marriage to her and they got married in November 2022. According to Vijaya, after a few months, Pradeep started demanding money to start a business. She gave him Rs 55 lakh and 200 grams of gold. He promised her Rs 50,000 per month for her household expenses and her two sons' education. But in the last few months, he stopped giving her money. In April 2024, when she asked him for her money and gold, he allegedly attacked her and told her not to ask him again. She further stated that in August, he started demanding more money and left home after she refused to give him more.
She claimed that she started enquiring about Pradeep and found out that he had cheated other women – mostly divorcees – in a similar manner. Kumaraswamy Layout police said the complainant provided a list of four women whom Pradeep had allegedly married and cheated on. The cops also said they found Pradeep's mobile phone switched off since the case was registered.
Police have charged him under sections 115 of the BNS (intentional assault), 318(1) (punishment for fraud), 318(4) (fraudulently inducing a deceived person to deliver property to another person), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
