Youngsters of interfaith couple entitled to upkeep from father: HC – KERALA – GENERAL

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday ruled that children of interfaith couples are entitled to maintenance from the father and that neither caste nor religion should be the criterion in determining the father’s duty. The Divisional bench, consisting of Judge Mushtaq and Judge Dr. A. Kauser Edappagath, said that all children should be treated equally regardless of their parents’ caste and religion.

The Departmental Bank examined the petition filed by Kozhikode-born JW Aragathan, a practicing Hindu, against the Nedumangad Family Court’s order. The family court ordered Aragathan to pay his Muslim wife’s daughter Rs 14.67 billion in marriage expenses, Rs 96,000 for her education costs and Rs 1 million in alimony.
