Amina Khalef, spouse of Tanzanian singer Ali Kiba, information for divorce over infidelity and abuse

A Kadhi court in Mombasa on February 10 gave the Tanzanian singer 15 days to respond to the lawsuit, failing which the case would continue in his absence.

“Should you not appear within the above time limit, the plaintiff may proceed with the lawsuit and judgment rendered in your absence,” the court filings read.

According to court documents, Khalef said she filed a lawsuit because she was not given a safe environment at her home in Dar-es-Salaam.

Khalef, who married Kiba in April 2018, accused him of infidelity, adding that she was allegedly verbally abused by her in-laws, which she says began about six months into their marriage.

“The answerer [Kiba] has mocked her marriage by disrespectfully engaging in public displays of infidelity towards various women, with total disregard for the petitioner’s feelings,” her suit papers read.

Khalef says efforts to resolve her marital problems were in vain as her husband failed to respond and concluded the marriage was broken beyond repair.

“The marriage has broken down badly, irrevocably, with no chance of salvation,” she said.

Khalef is now demanding 200,000 shillings a month for maintenance for her and her children, as well as health insurance for the two of them.

Ali Kiba has previously admitted to having problems in her marriage. In 2019, in an interview with Clouds FM, Kiba said they had problems in their marriage but were working to resolve them.

“It’s true that my wife and I have conflicts and that’s normal in a marriage, but I haven’t divorced her at all.”

“People don’t like to delight in other people’s problems, or maybe it’s unemployment, there’s nothing the Almighty legitimizes and hates like divorce. “People, where do you get the courage to persuade your partners to divorce, it’s only the devil who loves this ignorance,” Alikiba said.

In 2020, the mediocre hitmaker didn’t celebrate her wife’s birthday and didn’t even take to social media to acknowledge the rocky situation the couple found themselves in.
